INTRODUCTION - CRANKCASE SUMP AND COVERS
SPECIFICATIONS
This is a structural part of the engine that performs a mechanical role as well as containing the engine oil because it is directly connected to the intermediate shaft mount.
The oil sump is in aluminium alloy and contains special partitions that prevent the engine oil slopping around too much when the pump could end up drawing in air.
The oil level and temperature sensor keeps the level and the temperature of the oil lubricant oil inside the sump in check.
This sensor is connected to a coupling which interfaces with the Instrument Panel Node (NQS).

Technical specifications
It is a structural part of the engine with mechanical functions in addition to containing the engine oil because it is directly connected to the rear drive idler casing and to the two lower reaction links.
The oil sump is made from aluminium alloy with obvious advantages in terms of reduction in weight and heat exchange.
The oil sump incorporates the draught, the anti-splash partition and the oil level sensor; the draught is matched to the lower part of the crankcase with an o-ring seal.

Oil seals on crankshaft
The front crankshaft seal takes the form of an oil seal fitted on the front engine cover.
The rear crankshaft seal takes the form of an oil seal incorporated in the rear engine cover.
ENGINE OIL SUMP
The oil sump is made from aluminium alloy and has a special partition (2) inside to prevent the engine oil from splashing around too much.
The oil temperature and level sensor (1) is fitted inside the sump and is connected to a coupling that interfaces with the Instrument Panel Node (NQS).
A special duct (3), incorporated in the sump wall, interfaces with the oil pump inlet. The usual "intake" is therefore dispensed with facilitating the servicing operations of removing-refitting the oil sump.

CRANKCASE COVERS
The front crankshaft oil seal takes the form of an oil seal on the front engine cover (engine oil pump casing).
The rear crankshaft seal takes the form of an oil seal fitted on the engine flywheel attachment flange. The lip of the seal is facing the outside and thanks to its helical shape and the vacuum in the crankcase, it is held against the surface of the crankshaft.
