IGNITION SWITCH NOT WORKING

When the key is turned to the ON position nothing happens, the instruments do not light up; In the starting position, the starter motor does not turn.

STEP	OPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUT	TEST RESULTS
1	BATTERY EFFICIENCY CHECK	ALL OK	PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED	ACTION
	Check the efficiency of the battery using the appropriate diagnostic equipment	Move on to Step	Battery not working properly	Replace the battery
2	FASTENINGS CHECK	ALL OK	PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED	ACTION
	Check the following, in order: Correct fastening and earth connection of the negative battery terminal Correct fastening of positive battery pole and all leads connected to it No oxidation of the lead fastenings Correct fastening and connection between positive pole and junction with maxifuse at the battery	Move on to Step	1. Lead fastenings at the battery slack	1. Tighten leads
			2. Earth lead frayed	2. Replace lead See in Op. 5530B22 battery earth lead - r+r
			3. Connections with slack fastenings	3. Restore fastenings
			4. Maxifuse burnt out	4. Check the causes of the blown fuse and replace it (Wiring Diagram ) E1010 POWER SUPPLY
3	SUPPLY CHECK	ALL OK	PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED	ACTION
	Check switch power supply	Move on to Step	The power supply does not reach the switch	Check the continuity of the wiring between the Maxifuse in the battery junction unit and the switch (Wiring Diagram ) E1010 POWER SUPPLY
4	SWITCH CHECK	ALL OK	PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED	ACTION
	Check the condition of the switch and that it is working properly	Move on to Step	Switch contacts not working properly	Replace the switch See in Op. 5520A12 IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY - R.R. for versions with AIR BAG
5	CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION	ALL OK	PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED	ACTION
	Check that the fault is no longer present
