POWER SUPPLY DESCRIPTION

2.0 TB, 2.4 20V, 2.4 JTD 10V

Description

The electrical system is designed to increase the car''s safety level and prevent the possibility of fires and other consequences of electrical malfunctions. State-of-the-art connectors have been introduced to rule out the possibility of many connection defects.

Power is distributed via the junction units and/or fuses boxes. These are connected to control elements (relays and static actuators) to ensure maximum electrical protection and minimum complexity.

All wiring looms have been made modular by changing the way functions are distributed inside the connectors and replacing welds with short-circuiting joints.

The main safety solutions adoptd are as follows:

  • power supplies protected by maxifuses for the electrical system switch, in the case of short circuit, immediately downstream of the battery (see detail below);
  • the only leads excluded from the maxifuses (starter motor and alternator) are located in protected areas;
  • the layout of the whole system is optimised to reduce the risk of damage in the case of faults or accidents;
  • wiring installation has been optimised to reduced incorrect positioning and noise due to vibrations;
  • all wires offer high resistance to abrasion;
  • the wires in the engine are of special type, resistant to high temperature and protected with piping sheaths;
  • wires in the passenger compartment are protected by corrugated pipes and felted tapes to reduce noise levels;
  • the main connections coem with secondary lock terminals and lever locks to prevent terminal deformation.

All systems and electrical equipment are supplied by the battery at a voltage of 12V.

The battery is recharged by the alternator during engine operation

See E5010 STARTING AND RECHARING

The main supply lines are protected by maxifuses grouped in a box located directly on the positive battery terminal and connected directly to the terminal. A protective plastic case prevents accidental contacts with the battery positive terminal.

The maxifuse control unit contains an automatic battery disconnector device in line with the battery terminal that cuts off

supply to the starter motor/recharging lead

The box contains the follwoing maxifuses that are labelled according to the circuits protected:

  • CVM: engine compartment junction unit supply
  • CPL1: underfacia junction unit supply;
  • CPL2: underfacia junction unit supply;
  • CVB: load compartment junction unit supply

Some circuits are continuously supplied, even with the car at a standstill and the key out because they are connected directly to the battery.

Other circuits are supplied by turning the ignition key to various positions:

  • insert the key and turn it through one click to ON. This supplies numerous circuits that are described as ignition-operated (INT and 15/54 lines);
  • the second click - AVV position - supplies the starter motor (line "50"). Other circuits (those that absorbe most power) are now disconnected to ensure a maximum current flow to the motor; (INT/A line)
  • when the ignition is removed, the Exterior Lighting Control unit may be set to PARK to supply the side lights even with the key out ("STAZ" and "POS" lines);

    See E2010 SIDE LIGHTS / NO. PLATE LIGHTS

the lines used to distribute power to the various services are shown in the wiring diagrams for the various functions and systems. This general diagram shows all lines as they leave the battery and the MAXIFUSE box and the ignition key. See specific diagrams for greater detail.
