DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

2.4 20V

CONNECTING RODS

Specifications

Type

The connecting rods are made from hardened and tempered steel, with a copper alloy bush (1) fitted for matching with the gudgeon pin (2).

The floating type gudgeon pins are kept in place by two circlips (3) which are housed in the special piston ring grooves.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

PISTONS

Specifications

Type

The silicon aluminium alloy pistons with auto-thermal inserts (1) are divided into three classes with an arrow stamped on the piston crown indicating the direction of rotation of the engine so that they can be correctly fitted.

The piston crown is concave and has four notches designed to prevent interference with the valve heads.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

2.4 JTD 10V

CONNECTING RODS

Specifications

Type

The connecting rods are in hardened steel with a copper bush (1) press-fitted for connection to piston pin (2).

The floating pins are held in place by two expansion rings (3) that are housed in grooves on the piston hubs.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

PISTONS

Specifications

Type

The silicon light alloy pistons with autothermic inserts are subdivided into three size categories

An OMEGA-shaped combustion chamber in the piston crown improves combustion efficiency.

The piston is coupled to the pin by means of two copper alloy bushes.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS
  • 1 Piston
  • 2 Injector
  • 3 Heater plugs
  • 4 Air intake
  • 5 Exhaust gas outlet

3.0 V6, 3.2 V6

CONNECTING RODS

Specifications

The connecting rods are in hardened steel with a copper bush (1) press-fitted for connection to piston pin (2).

The floating pins are held in place by two flexible expansion pins (3) that are seated in special grooves made on the piston hubs.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

PISTONS

Specifications

The pistons are in silicon aluminium alloy with autothermal inserts(1). They are divided into three size categories and bear an arrow on the crown that indicates the engine rotation direction for correct installation.

The piston crown is concave with four grooves that prevent interference with the valve heads.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

CYLINDER LINERS/BORES

Specifications

These are cast iron and supported at the bottom. Coolant flows directly over their outsides for more rational heat dissipation (wet sleeves).

When refitting the engine, check that cylinder liner protrusion from the crankcase is within specified limits.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

2.0 TB

CONNECTING RODS

Specifications

Specifications

Type

The silicon light alloy pistons with autothermic inserts are subdivided into three size categories

An OMEGA-shaped combustion chamber in the piston crown improves combustion efficiency.

There is a channel inside the piston through which the oil, sent by the jet, flows, ensuring improved piston cooling.

The piston is coupled to the pin by means of two copper alloy bushes.
