GENERAL DESCRIPTION

WARNING

All the operations should be carried out taking great care to avoid personal injury.

The engine compartment contains many moving parts, components at high temperatures and live wires. Follow the warnings given below very carefully when working in the engine compartment.

- Switch off the engine and wait for it to cool down.

- No smoking.

- No naked flames.

- Make sure that there is a fire extinguisher nearby.

The use of special Fiat tools is required for certain procedures. The use of these tools is vital for working in safety.

Follow the current workshop safety regulations.

Where necessary, the Manual contains specific procedures to be followed to prevent dangerous situations from arising.

For the use of chemical products follow the safety instructions on the card from the supplier to the consumer (for Italy in accordance with Ministerial Decree No. 47/1992).

- Before working on the electrical system (connectors, electrical components, wiring, etc.) turn the ignition key OFF and DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.

Whenever the battery terminal or terminals is disconnected or the battery is removed, carry out the following procedure to reinitialise the control units that manage information relating to the electric windows, the three sun-roofs and the electrically-controlled sliding side door:

- Turn the ignition key to the ON position.

- Adjust the relevant switches to move the windows, roofs or door to fully-open position.

- Adjust the relevant switches to move the windows, roofs or door to fully-closed position.

- This operation resets the relevant control units to "0".

WARNINGS

All the operations should be carried out taking great care to avoid damage to components.

Avoid the brake/clutch fluid coming into contact with the paintwork; if it does happen, wash immediately with water.

Do not reuse brake/clutch fluid drained during the bleeding procedure.

To release parts that are sticking, tap gently using an aluminium or lead hammer if iron materials are involved; use a wooden or resin hammer for light alloy parts.

When dismantling, check that components that should be marked have the appropriate references.

When refitting, lubricate the parts, where necessary, to prevent seizing during the initial operating period.

When refitting it is vital to follow the tightening torques and adjustment data.

Each time they are refitted, replace gaskets, oil seals, flexible washers, circlips, self-locking nuts and all parts that have deteriorated.
