Rear exhaust silencer - r + r

Operation 1076B20 · EXHAUST PIPES AND SILENCERS

1.2 8v

Removing

Place the car on a ramp.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) fixing the band (1b).

2. Remove the bearings (2a) from the rubber mountings on the bodyshell, then remove the rear silencer (2b).

Refitting

Join the rear silencer to the exhaust pipe using the metal band.

Tighten the bolt fixing the metal band.

Fit the barings for the silencer in the special rubber mountings.

Remove the vehicle from the ramp.

1.4 8v, 1.6 16v

Removing

Place the car on a lift.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) fixing the band (1b).

2. Remove the bearings (2a) from the rubber mountings on the bodyshell, then remove the rear silencer (2b).

Refitting

Join the rear silencer to the exhaust pipe using the metal band.

Tighten the bolt fixing the metal band.

Fit the barings for the silencer in the special rubber mountings.

Remove the vehicle from the ramp.

1.3 JTD 16V

Removing

Place the car on a lift.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) fixing the band (1b).

2. Remove the bearings (2a) from the rubber mountings on the bodyshell, then remove the rear silencer (2b).

Refitting

Join the rear silencer to the exhaust pipe using the metal band.

Tighten the bolt fixing the metal band.

Fit the bearings for the silencer in the special rubber mountings.

Remove the vehicle from the lift.

1.9 DIESEL

Removing

Place the car on a ramp.

1. Undo bolt (1a) securing the metal connection collar (1b).

2. Take pins (2a) out of rubber blocks (2b) on the body, then remove rear silencer (2c).

Refitting

Join the rear silencer to the exhaust pipe using the metal band.

Tighten the bolt securing the metal connection collar.

Fit the barings for the silencer in the special rubber mountings.

Remove the vehicle from the ramp.

1.9 JTD 8V

Removing

Position the vehicle on the ramp.

1. Loosen the collar securing the rear exhaust silencer to the catalytic converter.

2. Release the rear exhaust silencer from the flexible mountings.

3. Remove the rear exhaust silencer.

Refitting

Place the rear exhaust silencer back in its housing and fix it to the flexible mountings.

Tighten the collar fixing the rear exhaust silencer to the intermediate exhaust silencer.

Remove the car from the ramp.
