INTRODUCTION - CLUTCH

3.2 JTS

The clutch is the dry single plate type supplied by Luk with a dual spring and the SAC device is fitted for recovering clutch plate wear.

In addition to the usual Belleville washer (1) there is also an auxiliary spring (2) on the clutch mechanism to make the force on the pedal linear. In effect, the auxiliary spring operates in the "non-linear" area of the Belleville washer.

The SAC device rests on the knurled inclined planes inside the clutch cover on which the wear recovery device seal moves. When wear is detected, three springs rotate the seal.

When it rotates the seal is raised and recovers the wear of the clutch plate.

A special tool kit must be used for the servicing operations of removing-refitting the clutch mechanism that makes it possible to cancel the force from the pressure plate pre-loading and therefore less effort is required on the pedal.

2. Flywheel

The clutch-flywheel system fitted to this engine version is supplied by LUK. Its features are as follows:

- dry, single plate clutch with thrust operation

- dual mass type damping flywheel.

CLUTCH RELEASE CONTROLS

In this hydraulic clutch release system, the release actuator consists of an annular cylinder fitted in the clutch bell housing coaxially with the gearbox mainshaft and integral with the thrust bearing. The release action is exerted directly on the thrust spring without any intervening linkage as in conventional systems. The application of this system means that performance can be maintained unchanged during the operational life of the clutch and it helps reduce noise and vibrations transmitted by the pedal.

The two main system components are the clutch release pump and the hydraulic actuator cylinder, which is responsible for generating the flow of fluid requird to release the clutch.
