Removal

Ensure that the ignition key is in the OFF position, then disconnect the battery negative terminal.

Component A1B Battery

Proceed with the removal See Op. 1016A40 Ignition coil cover on cylinder head- r+r .

1 Disconnect the electrical connection for the right Lambda sensor.

2 Disconnect the electrical supply connection for the air conditioning compressor.

Component L20 Air conditioning compressor "on" electromagnet 2

3 Disconnect the electrical connection for the left Lambda sensor.

1 Disconnect the electrical connections from the ignition coils.

Component A30 Ignition coil 1

2 Release the electrical wiring from the fastenings on the tappet cover.

3 Undo the bolt 3a and disconnect the earth lead 3b from the ignition coils support plate.

Component C40B Earth on engine 3b

1 Disconnect the high tension lead covers 1a from the spark plugs using the tool 1b.

Special tool 1.820.636.000 – Pliers 1b

1 Undo the bolts fixing the ignition coils support plate.

2 Pull the plate 2a, complete with ignition coils 2b, upwards.

At the bench, undo the bolts and separate the ignition coils from the plate.

NOTE: All ignition coils are the same and are interchangeable provided the correct cap is fitted to the large spark plug (cylinder 1 and 2) and the small spark plug (cylinder 3 and 4).

Refitting

Place the plate, complete with ignition coils, back in its housing.

Tighten the bolts fixing the ignition coils support plate.

Connect the high tension lead covers to the spark plugs.

Connect the earth lead to the ignition coils support plate and secure it using the bolt.

Secure the electrical wiring to the fastenings on the tappet cover.

Connect the electrical connections to the ignition coils.

Connect the electrical connection for the left Lambda sensor.

Connect the electrical supply connection for the air conditioning compressor.

Connect the electrical connection for the right Lambda sensor.

Proceed with the refitting See Op. 1016A40 Ignition coil cover on cylinder head- r+r .

Connect the battery terminal (-).
