DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

2.4 20V

CAM COVER

Specifications

Type

The plastic tappet cover closes the cylinder head at the top and there is a special seal.

CYLINDER HEAD

Specifications

Function

The cylinder head is a structural part of the engine that contains and supports the timing system components.

Composition

Structure

The cylinder head is the monolith type made from silicon and aluminium alloy.

The four valves per cylinder are fitted in the respective guides arranged in a 47° V formation driven by two camshafts through hydraulic tappets.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

The valve guides are an interference fit in the cylinder head seats and the internal diameter is perfected after fitting using a special reamer.

The gasket between the cylinder head and the cylinder block/crankcase is made from aramide fibre and the head is never retightened throughout the entire life of the engine.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

2.4 JTD 10V, 2.4 JTD 20V

CAM COVER

Specifications

Type

The plastic cam cover closes off the cylinder head at the top and an intervening gasket assures a seal.

CYLINDER HEAD

Specifications

Function

The cylinder head is a structural part of the engine that contains and supports timing system components.

Type

The cylinder head is one-piece in aluminium alloy and silicone.

The two valves per cylinder, which are parallel and vertical, are fitted in their own valve guides and controlled by a single camshaft whose cams act on mechanical tappets.

The valve guides are press-fitted in their seats on the cylinder head with interference. The inner bore is ground to size after fitting using a special reamer.

Unlike cylinder heads with prechamber, the entire combustion process takes place in the combustion chamber on the piston.

The gasket between cylinder head and crankcase is aramidic fibre and the head does not require retightening throughout the engine's lifetime.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

3.0 V6, 3.2 V6

CYLINDER HEAD

The crankcase is in light aluminium alloy and silicon with high mechanical strength and thermal conductivity.

The crankshaft is supported on four main bearings.

Special channels in the crankcase walls carry coolant and lubrication oil.

Jets at the cylinder bases spray oil to cool the pistons.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

2.4 JTD 20V

CYLINDER HEAD(S)

Construction specifications

The cylinder head is one-piece in aluminium alloy and silicone.

Two, ductile cast iron, overhead camshafts in a camshaft housing; they are operated by a belt and gears.

The four valves per cylinder, parallel and vertical, are positioned in the valve guides and are controlled by rocker arms operated by the camshaft cams and kept in contact with the valves through hydraulic tappets.

The valve guides are an interference fit in the cylinder head seats. A special reamer is used to produce the correct inner diameter after fitting.

Unlike cylinder heads with prechamber, the entire combustion process takes place in the combustion chamber on the piston.

The gasket between cylinder head and crankcsae is metal and the head does not require retightening throughout the engine life.
