FRONT STEERING KNUCKLE

Operation 7210A60 · Structural elements (front part)

The vehicle should be in the following condition before the operation: front door and hinges removed, front wing removed, bonnet removed, front pillar panel reinforcement bracket removed.

Removing

- Check whether the components connected are distorted through the bodyshell alignment measurements using suitable test equipment (test benches, templates or jigs).

- Carry out any straightening operations to the bodyshell before cutting the component.

1. Cut the pillar at points (1a) and (1b) using a power saw.

2. Remove the spot welds along the outer perimeter of the pillar using a chamfering machine.

- Detach the front pillar and remove it.

1. Using a chamfering machine and a drill, remove the spot welds in sections (1a) and (1b).

2. Detach the front pillar reinforcement and remove it.

Refitting

- Straighten the edges of the panel along the surface of the bodyshell involved.

1. Remove the anti-corrosion treatment using a rotary brush from the entire inner and outer perimeter of the front pillar (1a) reinforcement (1b).

2. Apply electro-galvanizing paint to the entire inner perimeter of the two replacement parts.

- Clean the perimeter of the bodyshell involved thoroughly using a rotary brush and apply electro-galvanizing paint.

- Position the front pillar reinforcement, securing it using self-locking clamps and check that it is correctly positioned.

1. Use a spot welder in areas (1a) and (1b).

- Grind the welds using a disc grinder.

- Check that the welded components are correctly positioned.

- Apply electro-galvanizing paint to the parts ground.

- Position the front pillar, securing it using self-locking clamps and check that it is correctly positioned.

1. Weld along the outer perimeter of the pillar using a spot welder.

2. Seam weld in the upper (2a) and lower (2b) cutting areas.

- Grind the welds using a disc grinder.

- Check that the welded component is correctly positioned.

- Apply electro-galvanizing paint to the parts ground.

When the operation is completed, refit the elements removed previously.
