MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS NOT WORKING

Both the main beam headlamps do not work under any circumstances (both in manual and flasher mode).

The main beam headlamps are controlled by the Steering Wheel Controls Node NVO managed by the Body Computer Node BSI and activated by the Engine Compartment Junction Unit Node BSM.

STEPOPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUTTEST RESULTS
0PRELIMINARY CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Activate the special control and check whether the appropriate warning light comes on in the instrument panel.Move on to StepThe warning light does not come on.Move on to Step
1BATTERY VOLTAGE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the battery voltage is correct.Move on to StepBattery voltage not correct.Restore the correct voltage.
2CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and check in the Body Computer ambient that the parameters are present and that there are no errorsMove on to Step1. Impossible to connect with the control unit.1. Replace the Body Computer control unit.
2. Errors presentMove on to Step
3ERRORS CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Using the Examiner in the Body Computer ambient check for the presence of one or more of the following errors:

  • Left/right main beam headlamps error
  • Connection error With steering column switch unit lights.
  • Connection error With Engine Casing (BSM).
  • VAN CON and CAR relays.
  • VAN CONF: connection With Instrument Panel
Move on to Step1. Left/right main beam headlamps error detected.

4ACTIVE DIAGNOSIS CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

With the Examiner in the Body Computer ambient check that the function in question is correctly activated in Active Diagnosis.

  • Left/right dipped headlamps control
Move on to StepImpossible to activate one of the dipped headlamps.See table I23 HIGH BEAM (ONE) RH OR LH DOES NOT COME ON OR COMES ON IRREGULARLY/
5CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Using the Examiner in the Steering Wheel Controls Node ambient, check the variation in the state of the parameters when the appropriate controls are activated. The parameters involved are:

  • Dipped/main beam headlamps control
Move on to Step1. Impossible to connect with the control unit.1. Replace the Steering Wheel Controls Node control unit
2. No variation in the state of the parameters considered is detectedMove on to Step
6CONTROL UNIT ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check the Steering Wheel Controls Node electrical circuit, in the following order:

  • Presence of battery positive at the network connection
  • Protective/supply fuse(s).
  • Wiring between Body Computer and Steering Wheel Controls Node.
  • Control unit earth.
Move on to Step1. Control unit faulty.1. Replace the Steering Wheel Controls Node control unit.
2. Protective fuse(s) blown2. Replace the component involved (in the case of a fuse, find out what caused it to blow).
3. Wiring defective3. Renew wiring
4. Control unit earth faulty4. Restore correct operation of control unit earth
7CONTROL UNIT ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check the Engine Compartment Junction Unit Node (BSM) electrical circuit, in the following order:

  • Presence of battery positive at the network connection
  • Protective/supply fuse(s).
  • Wiring between Body Computer and Engine Compartment Junction Unit Node (BSM).
  • Control unit earth.
Move on to Step1. Control unit faulty.1. Replace the BSM control unit.
2. Protective fuse(s) blown.2. Replace the component involved (in the case of a fuse, find out what caused it to blow).
3. Wiring defective.3. Renew wiring
4. Control unit earth faulty.4. Restore correct operation of control unit earth
