ENGINE COOLANT CONSUMPTION

2.0 16V JTD, 2.2 16V JTD

The engine coolant consumption is excessive.

Carry out a preliminary visual inspection of the cooling system to check that there are no coolant leaksMove on to StepPresence of leaks

Continue following the instructions in the table

1COOLING SYSTEM LEAKAGE TESTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Connect the test equipment replacing the expansion tank cap, pressurize the system at slightly below 1.4 bar and check that the pressure is maintained for several minutes and there are no visible leaksMove on to Step1. Fall in pressure without visible leaksMove on to Step
2. Fall in pressure with visible leaks

2. Continue following the instructions in the table

2CYLINDER HEAD CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Remove the head.Check:

  • Cylinder head plane correct planarity
  • Cylinder head support surface on cylinder block correct planarity;
Move on to Step1. Cylinder head plane defective1. Regrind the cylinder head plane
2. Cylinder block plane defective2. Regrind the cylinder block plane
3. Planes correct, head gasket faulty3. Change the head gasket
3CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATIONALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the fault is no longer present
