GEARBOX NOISE - IN NEUTRAL

With the vehicle stationary, the gearbox in neutral and the engine running, there is a high frequency, low intensity noise coming from the area of the gearbox.

0	PRELIMINARY CHECKS	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
		Test results
	Visually inspect whether the problem is accompanied by an oil leak from the gearbox/differential. Press the clutch pedal and check whether the noise increases. Check the gearbox/differential oil level Op. 0010T41 MANUAL GEARBOX OIL CHECK LEVEL AND TOP UP IF NECESSARY	Move on to Step 1	Oil leak detected from the gearbox	Proceed as instructed in the See table X15 GEARBOX/DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAKS
			The noise disappears or decreases considerably with the clutch pedal pressed: the noise comes from inside the gearbox	Proceed as instructed in the See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING
			Oil level too low.	Restore the correct level Op. 0010T41 MANUAL GEARBOX OIL CHECK LEVEL AND TOP UP IF NECESSARY and carry out a road test. If the fault persists, move on to Step 1
1	SPLINED HUB CHECK	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Check for excess grease on the clutch plate hub bushes and the gearbox main shaft	Move on to Step 2	Gearbox main shaft hub faulty	Replace the gearbox main shaft Op. 2110B MANUAL GEARBOX WITH DIFFERENTIAL GEARS AND SYNCHRONISERS
		Move on to Step 2	Clutch plate hub bushes faulty.	Restore the correct lubrication for the bushes. If necessary, replace the clutch plate Op. 1810A20 CLUTCH - R + R
2	CLUTCH PLATE CHECK	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Check: - Clutch plate wear; - Fouling (oil or grease) of the clutch plate; - That there is no distortion of the clutch plate; - That there is no damage to the pressure plate diaphragm spring.	End of diagnosis	Clutch plate or pressure plate faulty	Replace the clutch plate Op. 1810A20 CLUTCH - R + R
		End of diagnosis	Presence of oil or grease.	Also replace the gearbox input oil seal Op. 2110B34 MANUAL GEARBOX (6 SPEED) WITH DIFFERENTIAL - DISMANTLING AND REASSEMBLY - WASH, CHECK COMPONENTS, REPLACE SYNCHRONIZERS AND INTERNAL CONTROLS
