ENGINE SPEED CHECK

Check 1060GI

2.4 JTD 20v

CHECK TO BE PERFORMEDRESOLUTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1Press the START/STOP and check that the engine rpm does not exceed 60 rpm.Move on to Step 3
2With the engine idling and warm, with all users off and the accelerator pedal not operated, the engine rpm must be in a range between 770 and 930 rpm. The test may be said to be completedMove on to Step 3
3Check for the presence of error P0219 – Excessive speed recognition. Continue to Step 5Engine rpm is greater than 5400 rpm. Inform the customer that this high engine rpm speed may cause mechanical damage. Continue to Step 4
4Check that the intake system is not contaminated with oil. The test may be considered to be completed

Continue as indicated

See table X011 LEAKS IN FUEL FEED SYSTEM

5

Press the START/STOP button and turn off the engine.

Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the engine control unit

See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

Turn the ignition key to the ON position.

Measure the voltage between Pin 27 of connector B control unit wiring side and Earth, checking it is less than 0.3 V.

See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

Move on to Step 7

Move on to Step 6
6

If faults are present, repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine control unit and the rpm sensor

See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT

The test can be considered over

Change the rpm sensor

Op. 1060G20 ENGINE RPM SENSOR - R.R.

7

Press the START/STOP button.

Measure the voltage between Pin 27 of connector B control unit wiring side and Earth, checking it is greater than 500 V.

See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

Move on to Step 6
8

Measure the resistance between Pins 12 and 27 of control unit wiring side, checking it is in a range between 200 and 3000 Ohms.

See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

Move on to Step 11

Move on to Step 9
9

Measure the resistance between Pins 12 and 27 of connector B control unit wiring side, checking it is less than 200 Ohms.

See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

Move on to Step 6
10

If faults are present, repair or if necessary replace the engine control unit electrical wiring.

See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT

The test can be considered over

Change the rpm sensor

Op. 1060G20 ENGINE RPM SENSOR - R.R.

11

Reconnect the wiring harness connector to the control unit

See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the rpm sensor.

See K046 RPM SENSOR

Set the multimeter to measure alternating current voltage

Measure the voltage between sensor wiring side Pins 1 and 2

See K046 RPM SENSOR

Start the engine and check the voltage is greater than 0.5 V

Change the rpm sensor

Op. 1060G20 ENGINE RPM SENSOR - R.R.

12

Check that the sensor operates correctly: in particular, check for intermittent contacts, missing teeth, incorrect reference point, incorrect gap position, etc.

See K046 RPM SENSOR

Restore correct operation, if necessary, replace the faulty components
13
