E3021 Rear window wash/wipe

Description

The rearscreen wiper is operated by turning the ring nut on the end of the lever located on the right of the steering wheel.

By pushing the lever gently towards the steering wheel the rearscreen washer function is activated; the same pump is used as for the windscreen washer (two-way), but it rotates in the opposite direction and sends the detergent fluid to the rear.

If the lever is kept pressed, the rearscreen wiper comes on and operates for a few moments after the lever is released. When the lever is released, the windscreen wipers will continue to operate for several strokes.

The rearscreen wash/wipe can only be operated with the ignition switched ON.

The windscreen wash/wipe circuit is protected by a specific fuse and is operated by the ignition-operated relay located in the junction unit.

Description of operation

The stalk unit H5 is supplied at pin 3 of connector D from the ignition-operated line (INT/A) of the relay R1 protected by the fuse F14: both are contained in the junction unit B1.

The rear wiper is activated by stalk switch H5 via a signal sent by pin 1 of connector D to rear wiper motor N16.

When operated, the windscreen washer switch on the steering column switch unit H5 sends two signals from pin 8 and pin 9 of connector A, which reach the pump for operating the windscreen washer N22 directly. The motor is operated upon a command from stalk switch H5 in the opposite manner to that described for the washer function (when the motor is operated in reverse, it sends fluid to the back instead of to the front).

One of the two signals (pin 2 of connector D of H5) is sent to electronic device inside rear wiper motor N16 that controls the operation of the rear wiper in conjunction with the rear washer.

The rear wiper motor N16 is then connected to earth. It consists of the actual geared motor, the end of travel contacts and the electronic adjustment and control device.
