ENGINE COOLANT - CHANGE
- Position the vehicle on a lift.
- With the engine cold, undo the engine coolant reservoir cap.
Do not remove the tank cap when the engine is warm as there is a risk of scalding.
Op. 7055B54 UNDER ENGINE PROTECTION/GUARD - R.R.
- Undo the radiator coolant drain plug.
Collect the coolant in a suitable container.
.
- Tighten the coolant drain plug to the radiator.
- Fully unscrew the bleed fitting on the upper coolant intake sleeve to the radiator.
- Fully unscrew the bleed fitting on the lower coolant outlet sleeve from the radiator.
- Fully unscrew the bleed fitting on the pipe from the air conditioning system to the engine oil heat exchanger.
- Slowly pour the specified fluid into the circuit through the engine coolant reservoir fitting, keeping the reservoir fluid level above the MAX notch.
| Component | Type | Description | Classification | Qty. | Validity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Engine Cooling Circuit | Fluid [I] | PARAFLU UP | CUNA NC 956-16 - ASTM D 3306 | 8.15 | 2.2 JTS |
- Close the bleed screw on the lower coolant outlet sleeve from the radiator as soon as the fluid emerges.
- Carry on adding fluid until it emerges from the bleed fitting on the upper coolant intake sleeve to the radiator, then close.
- Leave the fluid level to stabilise in the reservoir, then close the bleed fitting on the pipe from the air conditioning system heater to the engine oil heat exchanger even if no fluid emerges, only air.
- Fit the engine coolant reservoir cap and tighten.
- Start up the engine and let it idle for about 2 minutes.
- Then carry out gradual, periodic (every 30 secs.) acceleration until the engine speed is around 3/4 of maximum power rpm.
- Repeat this operation until the fan cuts in for about three times.
During this operation keep the climate control system switched off to prevent the fan from coming on for reasons unconnected to the heating of the coolant.
- After the above operations and with the engine cold, check the fluid level in the reservoir and top up to the MAX notch on the reservoir if necessary.
- At the end of the above operations, make sure that the amount of fluid introduced into the system is at least equal to the amount collected during the draining stage.
Op. 7055B54 UNDER ENGINE PROTECTION/GUARD - R.R.
- Remove the vehicle from the lift.
DRAINING THE SYSTEM
- With the engine cold, undo the expansion tank cap.
- Position a suitable container for collecting the coolant.
- Open the drain tap located in the lower part of the radiator.
FILLING THE SYSTEM
- Close the drain tap opened previously.
- Loosen the bleed valve on the upper part of the radiator on the left side (battery).
- Fill the circuit with the specified fluid through the expansion tank filler until fluid emerges through the bleed valve.

| Engine Cooling Circuit | Fluid [I] | PARAFLU UP | CUNA NC 956-16 - ASTM D 3306 | 10.3 | 3.2 JTS |
- Close the bleed valve and continue filling until the MAX level is reached.
- Start up the engine and let it idle for about 2 minutes.
- Carry out several accelerations checking, in the meantime, that the circulation in the circuit has begun.
- Top up the coolant to the MAX mark on the reservoir if necessary.
- Fit and tighten the expansion tank cap fully.
- Remove the air from the circuit by carrying out periodic, gradual accelerations (every 30 seconds).
This operation should be carried out until the thermostat opens and the fan switches on and off at least 3 times.
During this operation keep the climate control system switched off to prevent the fan from coming on for reasons unconnected to the heating of the engine coolant.
- Then switch off the engine and leave it to cool down.
- If necessary, top up with the specified fluid to the MAX reference.
- At the end of the above operations, make sure that the amount of fluid introduced into the system is at least equal to the amount collected during the draining stage.
- Tighten the coolant drain plug to the radiator.
- Loosen the bleed screw on the water pump rigid inlet pipe.
- Slowly introduce the recommended fluid into the circuit via the filler on the engine coolant supply reservoir.
| Component | Type | Description | Classification | Qty. | Validity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Engine Cooling Circuit | Fluid [I] | PARAFLU UP | CUNA NC 956-16 - ASTM D 3306 | 7.35 | 2.4 JTD 20V |
- Close the bleed screw on the water pump rigid inlet pipe as soon as the fluid comes out.
- Complete refilling with the recommended fluid until the MAX reference is reached on the reservoir.
- Start up the engine and let it idle for about 2 minutes.
- In the meantime top up with the recommended fluid until the MAX reference is reached.
- Tighten the cap on the engine coolant reservoir.
- Remove the air from the circuit by carrying out period, gradual accelerations up to a speed of around 3000 rpm.
This operation should be carried out until the thermostat opens and the fan switches on and off at least 3 times.
- If during this stage the level in the tank drops noticeably, return the engine speed to idling, open the cap very carefully and top up with the recommended fluid until the MAX reference is reached, then close the cap and complete the removal of the air from the circuit.
- Stop the engine and wait until the circuit has cooled down sufficiently.
- If necessary, top up with the specified fluid to the MAX reference.
- At the end of the above operations, make sure that the amount of fluid introduced into the system is at least equal to the amount collected during the draining stage.
Op. 7055B54 UNDER ENGINE PROTECTION/GUARD - R.R.
- Remove the vehicle from the lift.
