About Toyota

Kiichiro Toyoda founded Toyota in 1937 as a spin-off of Toyota Industries, the machine maker started by his father, Sakichi.

Reading a Toyota engine code

The number is the engine's place in its family, the letters are the family, and the suffix lists its features. In 3S-GTE, "3S" is the third S-family engine, G is a performance twin-cam head, T is turbocharged and E is multi-point fuel injection. An F instead of G means a standard twin-cam head.
