About Saab
Saab's car business began in Sweden in 1945 as a project of the aircraft maker Saab AB, and its first car, the 92, was launched in 1949. The 900 of 1978 became its best-selling model. General Motors bought half of Saab Automobile in 1989 and the rest in 2000, sold it to Spyker in 2010, and Saab went bankrupt in 2011.
Shared with other makes
- 9000 was developed with Fiat on the Type Four platform, also used for the Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and Alfa Romeo 164.
- 900 from 1994 is based on the Opel Vectra chassis (GM2900 platform), and the second-generation 9-3 uses GM's Epsilon platform, shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6.
- 9-7X was developed from the Oldsmobile Bravada, alongside the Buick Rainier.
